Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon - Characters GuideRune Factory 2 Characters Guide:By FreyashawkEmail: castleenchanted aolCreated on 18 November 2008Last updated on 4 December 2009Introduction:This is not intended to serve as a comprehensive guide for the game but is oneof the little 'mini-guides' I create for Harvest Moon games as a quickreference guide for players. My Comprehensive General Guide can be found at:Guide deals simply with the characters in Rune Factory 2. The firstsection covers the characters that appear in the 1st Generation game. Many ofthese characters will be found in the 2nd Generation game as well.Characters that appear only in the 2nd generation game will be listed in aseparate section at the end of this Guide. With respect to characters who appear both in the 1st and 2nd Generations, eachhas a separate listing for the 2nd Generation that immediately follows the 1stGeneration listing for each character. For characters like Roy and Cammy whomature and change in the 2nd Generation, you will find that their FavouriteItems have altered when you reach the 2nd Generation. In Rune Factory 2, characters will give information about themselves when theirFriendship reaches specific levels. The first information you obtain actuallydoes not require any Heart Level above zero, but it does require completion ofthe character's 1st Request. Once you have completed an individual's 1stRequest, he/she will tell you something he/she particularly likes, the 'MostFavourite' item.
At 2 Hearts, you may be able to obtain a confession as tothe other 'Most Favourite' item. At 3 Hearts, he/she will confess to aspecific dislike, a Most Hated Item. At 4 Hearts, the character will confidethe day of his/her birthday to you.Unlike most Harvest Moon games, there are only one or two items that eachcharacter will accept happily as a gift on any occasion.
The first of thesetwo items usually will be mentioned after you have completed the character's1st Request. The other 'Most Favourite' will be disclosed at 2 Hearts. These favourite items, however, are not appropriate birthday gifts.Furthermore, in many cases, confessions by an individual are a form ofmisdirection and items mentioned do not always signify a 'Most Favourite'.For example, although Rosalind speaks of her love of APPLES, APPLES are not a'Most Favourite' of hers. The only true way to distinguish a true 'MostFavourite' from an ordinary item is from the response the character makes whenthe item is offered as a gift.In most traditional Harvest Moon games, giving any item a characterparticularly likes on the occasion of his/her birthday will be acknowledged asa birthday gift. This is not the case in Rune Factory 2. There is only oneitem for each individual that will be recognised as a birthday gift.If you give the assigned Special Birthday Gift item to a character on any dayother than his/her birthday, the individual will mention the fact that this isthe item he/she would like to receive as a Birthday Gift. All Special Birthday Gift Items are listed in the sections of this Guide thatdeal with specific individuals and in a separate section at the end of theGuide.
You can purchase the Special Birthday Gift Items for EVERY individualin the 1st Generation from Yue.In Rune Factory 2, as in any Harvest Moon game, it is important to speak tocharacters at every Heart Level but the three levels mentioned previously arestages in the relationship where you can obtain vital information. Forexample, if the character's heart level increases too rapidly, you may loseyour opportunity to discover his/her birthday as this is revealed only at 4Hearts. Once the birthday date is revealed, it will appear on the Calendar onthe Upper Floor of your Farmhouse. If, however, you give a character the designated Birthday Gift Item on theoccasion of his/her birthday, the birthday then will be added to yourCalendar.Eligible Girls have two separate Heart levels, consisting of a Love Level and aFriendship Level. All other characters have only one Heart Level in the formof a Friendship Level.Usually, an Eligible Girl's Love and Friendship points will increase at thesame rate when you experience her Request Events and speak to her at everyFestival. In some cases, however, her Friendship Level may increase faster ifyou perform actions that are calculated to increase her liking of you as afriend but have no effect in terms of romance. The Requests that appear on the Bulletin Board in the centre of the DeSainte-Coquille Square are the key to every character's Friendship as well asbeing the source of the 'Heart Events' for each of the Eligible Girls in the1st Generation. You should accept EVERY Request from every character, whetheror not it is a Request from an Eligible Girl or from one whom you intend tomarry. My Rune Factory 2 Requests Guide gives ALL Requests with their rewards and anyother effects.Requests are the method by which you will obtain most of your Tools, much ofyour early income, some useful Accessories and are the best way to raise HeartLevels.Requests occur in a specific order and will appear as specific heart levels arereached.
If you do not perform the first Request from an Individual thatappears on the Board, the next Request will not appear. You therefore cannotreally 'pick and choose' where Requests are concerned.Furthermore, it is important to note that in your Courtship of many of theEligible Girls, Requests by other individuals may play a vital role. Forexample, if you wish to marry Mana, you must complete all of Douglas'Requests. Likewise, if you wish to marry Dorothy, you must complete Gordon'sRequests. In the world of Harvest Moon, ALL characters whom you meet have a part to playin your life. It is good to realize this fact and never to neglect anyopportunity to increase Friendship or Love, whatever your ultimate intentionsmay be.As is usually the case in Harvest Moon games, every Event or action is worth aspecific number of points in terms of Love or Friendship. You will be unableto see the precise number of points that have been gained in terms of any Loveor Friendship Levels but you will be able to see the total number of Heartswhen you access the Characters Page of the Farm Menu by tapping on theFace/Heart Icon at the top of the lower DS screen. The Characters Page actually consists of two pages. The first is devoted toIndividuals and the second is devoted to your Tame Monsters.
On theIndividuals Page, you will see two columns: Friend and Love Levels. Thenumber of Hearts gained will be displayed in each column. Only characterseligible for marriage will have Love Points. The items involved in any Request may or may not be among the gifts that theindividual making the Request likes best. If the character gives you a bag ofseeds, it may an indication that the Crop or Flower produced from those seedsare a favourite gift.
The bottom screen of Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon shows the protagonist battling an enemy in a cave, while the top screen shows a map of the location.Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon has gameplay similar to its predecessor. The game runs on its own clock and calendar; while the player is outside, one in-game minute passes every second. All four are included, though there are only 120 days in the year, with 30 days per season. The weather varies from day to day - while it is typically sunny, there are occasional rainy days, and, rarely, might damage crops and force the player to stay indoors. The player begins with two tools, the and the, allowing the player to till the land and grow various plants after the player purchases or obtains seeds.
Each type of seed has a different growth rate and cost, and some plants can be harvested multiple times. In the beginning of the game, the player is given a farm littered with rocks, stumps, and various objects littered throughout. Once the seeds are sown, the player must water them daily, and after several days of growing, they will be able to be picked and either sold, given away, eaten, or stored.
For the most part, each plant may only be planted in one particular season, and if, for example, a spring plant is in the ground during summer, it will die. Plants can be grown in certain areas outside the farm, where the climate is unchanging; however, these areas must be watered by the player, and usually contain enemies. The player interacts with objects and townsfolk through dialogue similar to a, including representing the townfolk with -styled images to the story. In addition, occur at certain points in the storyline. While every has 'Friend Points' that can be increased by visiting them and giving them items, seven female characters also have a statistic called 'Love Points' that increases as the player shows them affection. When the Love Point total reaches ten, the player can then the character and raise a child, who becomes the second protagonist.
The child is unable to marry, but can conduct a 'love ceremony' instead. The player character has two types of statistics: ability statistics and battle statistics. The former show how well the player can execute a certain task, while the latter are standard statistics.
These battle statistics can be improved either by defeating enough enemies to or by equipping a particular weapon or piece of equipment. The player's skills include basic tasks such as farming, fighting, and mining, and they level up as the player carries out these tasks. A specific tool is usually required for every task; some tools can also be used as weapons. While exploring, the player can fight to increase their strength, or befriend them and keep them as livestock, farmhands, or as battling companions. Items harvested from livestock kept in barns can be sold for money or used to cook.Plot Setting The game has several different areas. The main area is the player's farm, where they do most of their farming and living in. The player's house has the basic amenities, including a refrigerator, a bed, a table, and others. The player has a diary that they can use to save their progress, and a mailbox from which the player may occasionally receive mail.
Just south of the farm is the seaside town of Alvarna, which has a variety of locations, including shops, houses, and other facilities. There are several monster-infested dungeons throughout the game, each based in one of the seasons. The player can find land fit to farm with, as well as monsters that can be fought or captured.Rune Factory 2 features festivals on specific days of the year. Most of the festivals are original ones from Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons and Rune Factory, though some are based on real-world festivals, such as New Year's Eve. Stores are not open on holidays, with the exception of the bathhouse, which is closed on Mondays.Story A boy with amnesia wanders to a town named Alvarna. He meets a girl named Mana who gives him a farmland and tools to use and names himself 'Kyle' (which can be changed). Upon developing his life with a new identity, he is married to a chosen bride and conceives a child with her; a son or daughter depending on the player's choice named 'Aaron' or 'Aria' respectively (which, again, can be changed).
Later he helps build a school for the town. One day, he regains his memory and remembers why he came to Alvarna, and why he felt so strongly to build the school. He then leaves his family in the middle of the night.
A few years later, his child following clues left behind by the father, learns about the existence of Fiersome, a dragon who was sealed 1000 years ago. The child also discovers the father left so he could merge himself to Fiersome to restrain the dragon's powers. The child defeats and seals the dragon away with the spell Dragon Break. Upon doing so, the father's spirit is sealed along with the dragon's. The child continues to find a way to separate the father's spirit from Fiersome back home and finds the spell Omni-Gate which manages to bring the father back home and reunites him with the family and friends he left behind.Development According to Marvelous's managing director and Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons's creator, Rune Factory 2 does not borrow the Harvest Moon(Bokujō Monogatari) name for the Japanese release.
